The Vogue Cover Challenge

With the recent onset of the #VogueChallenge on all social media platforms, I’m sure you might have seen posts of people you know on a Faux Vogue cover.

The challenge started as a tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement by an Oslo-based student Salma Noor first posting a black and white shot of herself by photographer, Angèlique Calvin, with the Vogue logo and a headline reading, “being Black is not a crime” as a kind of protest.

In a recent article, Vogue has also admitted that the exposure of women, people of color, and non-binary individuals in all the jobs, from a photographer to a model.

According to my, this challenge is by far the most inspiring as I have seen the diverse covers by people from different parts of the world, breaking all the stereotypes associated with the typical magazine covers. This challenge clearly lets us know that we are beautiful the way we are.

As I’ve come across a lot of #VogueChallenge posts, I would like to share some aspects which will make your version of the Vogue Cover look elegant like a real Vogue cover!

Creativity

Let your mind go wild, breaking the stereotypes and think of novel ideas to present your version of the Vogue cover! Photography is all about perspective. Add meaning to your version of the cover so that it’s not just a magazine cover but also has a deeper meaning to it.

Photo Quality

Now, this is a mandatory aspect to make your Vogue cover look real. Taking into account the vast varieties of magazine covers, they all have one thing in common: the picture quality of the photograph is at its best. Thus, it is advisable to click in a well-lit place, with a good camera such as a DSLR, iPhone, the latest Android, or even a digital camera! Just remember that the picture must not be too noisy or pixelated which can ruin your attempt.

Simple Yet Elegant

By simple, I mean that you should avoid unwanted elements in the picture so that the viewer is able to see the subject without any distraction. However, this doesn’t mean that your photo should be plain You can add elements which match the aura of the photograph. Remember that it is you who should experiment with various elements and see what suits your photographs better.
